Q: We have a group health plan that covers our employees and their families. The agent who sold us the plan is no longer in the area to handle our service needs. Everyone likes the plan we currently have but we would rather work with a local agent. Is it possible to change agents without changing the health plan?
A: Yes, you can change agents on a group health plan at any time. Just select an agent with whom you’d like to work and give the agent a letter on your company letterhead stating that you are appointing them as your agent of record. Once the insurance company receives the letter, the new agent can begin acting on your behalf to service your account.
Q: I own a business and employ 12 people. We provide health and dental insurance for our employees. The rate on the dental seems to have really gone up this year. Is it possible to change the dental portion of the insurance to a different insurance company or do the dental and medical have to be with the same company?
A: Your dental and medical coverage do not have to be with the same insurance comapny. Sometimes there are advantages to having them separated. There are several really great group dental plans out there right now with fairly reasonable rates. As an independent broker, we can get quotes from all the carriers and compare prices and plan designs for you.
